Unit Overview

Large, high-acuity emergency care unit with 118 beds
Patient population includes behavioral health, boarding patients, emergency/trauma cases, and critically ill/ICU-level patients
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Massachusetts
Minimum 2 years of experience in Emergency Department (ED), including experience within the last year
Experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC
Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing

Pros

Unit is traveler friendly. It’s a teaching hospital so it’s always safe to ask questions. Team members try and help each other, it’s very welcoming.

Cons

Stupid high acuity and nurse to pt ratio is borderline dangerous. 1:6 in the ED and in the units med surge often 1:7.
