Job Opportunity: Pediatrics Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Seeking a Pediatric Registered Nurse with acute care pediatric and chemotherapy/oncology experience to provide care for pediatric med-surg and oncology patients, including neonates through adolescents. The role involves managing vascular access, administering chemotherapy and other medications, and supporting general pediatric care needs.
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid RN license in New Jersey
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience
- Minimum 1.5 years of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Pediatrics and oncology experience required
Clinical Skills
- Peripheral line care/management
- Central line/implanted line care and central line blood draws
- Administration of chemotherapy
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Work Environment & Unit Details
- Patient ratio approximately 1:5
- Unit serves general pediatrics, hematology/oncology, orthopedic, and surgical patients (neonates to adolescents)
- Floating required within skillset based on census, acuity, and staffing
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background & Screening
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start
- E-Verify clearance required
- Multiple alias checks for background and exclusion lists
- Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (with additional requirements if history of positive TB)
- Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start (updated annually)
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination (within 12 months)
- Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
Competency & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 72 hours of signing, valid within 12 months
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for applicable units
- IV Therapy/Infusion competency exam required for all RNs (except OR specialties)
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation and cancellation policies
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required
References & Work History
- Two references within last 2 years (one managerial)
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Work history verification for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)
Scheduling & Policies
- Priority given to candidates who submit requests for return to office (RTO) and scheduling prior to offer
- No scheduling requests approved after offer acceptance
- Floating required without exception
- Locals accepted at same rate
