Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Salem, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 19:00–7:30)

Job Overview

• Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) with neurotrauma stepdown focus

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience within the last 3 years in MS/Tele/PCU; neurotrauma stepdown experience with NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) through AHA (American Heart Association) required
• Skills:

  • Management of telemetry patients
  • Interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias
  • Oxygen protocols and non-invasive airway management
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Isolation precautions and PPE use
  • Experience with cardiac drips (e.g., nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone, Nicardipine)
  • Rapid response team activation
  • Computerized documentation proficiency
• Licensure: Must hold a valid Oregon RN license or have pending Oregon RN license status (must be listed in application)
• Telemetry Experience: Some telemetry experience is mandatory
• Travel Experience: Experience as a travel nurse preferred but not required
• Float: Willingness to float within scope, including to a nearby hospital if needed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (not greater than every other weekend)

Preferred Qualifications

• IV start skills
• Neurotrauma stepdown experience with NIHSS certification

Schedule & Hours

• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Options for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Weekend shifts every other weekend

• 30-bed Surgical Neurotrauma Care Unit (SNTCU), newly opened in 2022, planned to evolve into Surgical Neuro Trauma ICU/IMCU

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and ongoing every 30 days
  • International background check if applicable
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (can start pending physical)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (or declination forms)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination required year-round
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Fit mask testing onsite within first week of start (not required for some non-clinical roles)
• Competency Exams:

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with minimum 85% passing score
  • Core competency exams required prior to start and annually
• References: Two references within last 2 years showing 1 year in comparable specialty; at least one supervisory reference within last 12 months
• Photo for Badge: White background photo required at least 8 days prior to start
