Job Opportunity: Pediatric Infusion Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care for pediatric patients receiving infusion therapies.
- Patient ratio approximately 1:3.
- Patient population includes all types of childhood cancers and sickle cell patients.
- Floating to Pediatrics, Adolescent, PICU Stepdown, and other units based on skillset.
- Schedule: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
- Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday (Saturday/Sunday).
- First-time travel nurses are accepted.
- Local candidates are also accepted.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Hematology/Oncology (inpatient or outpatient).
- Required skills: EPIC electronic health record, Pediatric Early Warning Scores (PEWS), phlebotomy (including A-lines, central lines, PICCs), chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care.
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience preferred.
Required Certifications
- APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) Chemotherapy Certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey.
Schedule and Time Off
- No block scheduling.
- Any requested time off must be submitted with application and approved before offer.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license required within 48 hours of contract signing.
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing required prior to start; must be updated annually.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Color vision exam required if job tasks involve color discrimination.
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam, dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam, IV therapy/infusion exam within 12 months of start.
- Pass/fail testing for pharmacology and EKG required with remediation policy in place.
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required.
- Skills checklist must be completed and updated annually.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps).
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific floating policy acknowledgment for each new assignment.
- Completion of annual education PowerPoint and sign-off prior to start.
- Must complete or have on file IV certification (required for all RNs except OR specialties).
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required only for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not required for this role).
- Chemotherapy certification must be current; renewal confirmation required if expiring within one month of start.
- Facility requires proof of OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission annual training.
- Must comply with facility’s latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
- Pediatric Infusion experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Hematology/Oncology experience.
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Chemotherapy certification issued by the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
- Navy blue scrub color is designated for this role.
