Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on Med/Surg Telemetry unit with potential to float to related units including Emergency Department.
• Rotating shifts: 7pm–7:30am (night) and 7am–7:30pm (day); shifts may vary based on operational needs.
• Must work at least every other holiday.
• Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication administration exam; passing scores required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum 1.5 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with experience within the last year.
• Current certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Certifications & Compliance

• Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
• Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tdap every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
  • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
  • Annual flu vaccination (no declinations accepted)
• Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).

Background & Screening Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 48 hours of contract signing, results required within 12 months and updated annually.
• Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
• Nursys verification within 30 days of start.
• Two professional references from within one year of start date (manager, supervisor, or director level).

Orientation & Training

• Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
• Modules include mandatory training videos and tests; skipping videos will result in lockout.
• SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for medication exam.
• Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at this facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.

Work Hours

• 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.
• Night shift: 7:00pm to 7:30am (3 shifts per week).
• Day shift: 7:00am to 7:30pm (3 shifts per week).
• Shift rotation possible to meet hospital needs.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times during assignment.
• Candidates with latex allergies must notify facility to ensure availability of latex-free gloves.
• Religious and medical exemptions for certain vaccinations and fit mask requirements are accepted but require agency and facility approval.
• Candidates must have at least 3 years of prior work history including 2 years in acute care in a similar area.
• Competency exams for medication and ECG interpretation are required at orientation with remediation and retake opportunities if needed.
