ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Metairie, Louisiana

Position Overview

• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Weekly Hours: 36
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Requirements

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Patient Care & Work Environment

• Patient ratio typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
• Weekend shifts required: 4 per 4-week schedule
• No call required
• Floating required: may float to all ICUs, Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and occasionally to Medical/Surgical or Progressive Care Units with 1:4 ratios
• Equipment used includes: Alaris IV Pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Servo I ventilators, Fresenius CRRT Dialysis machines, Edwards Lifesciences cardiac monitors, Medtronic EVD management systems, Arctic Sun TMS, GE monitors, Hill Rom beds, Pyxis medication stations, Veratron bladder scanner

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card (can be completed onsite if not current)
• NIH Stroke Certification

Additional Compliance & Documentation

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; includes social security trace, nationwide and federal checks, sex offender registry, and FACIS Level 3; must be updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Government-issued photo ID matching candidate documentation required
• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days
• Competency exams required annually: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, Core Parts I-III; must score 80% or higher
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)
• Physical exam not required by employer but required within 12 months for placement
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper forms)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella (boosters required if titers low)
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months)
  • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters required if titer low)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (Oct 1 - Mar 31) with exemptions and declinations accepted under policy
• Employee appearance policy and flu declination forms must be acknowledged

Work Conditions & Expectations

• Return to work limited to 5 days total
• Floating to multiple units including ICU, ED, PACU, and occasionally MS/PCU
• Must be able to work weekends as scheduled
• No on-call responsibilities

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills, flexibility to float across units, and proficiency with Epic and advanced ICU equipment.
