Registered Nurse (NICU RN) - Longmont, Colorado

Job Details

  • Specialty: NICU RN (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Level 2)
  • Location: Longmont, CO (may float to a nearby facility 26 miles away if needed)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Unit: NICU/Nursery, 6 beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:3 babies
  • Schedule: Set by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; flexibility required to fill scheduling gaps
  • Weekend Requirement: 6-9 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
  • Holiday Requirement: May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
  • Call/Standby: Rare, only for low census situations
  • Orientation: 1-3 shifts with a preceptor; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week (remote completion of modules allowed)
  • Dress Code: Blue hospital scrubs provided

Patient Population & Responsibilities

  • Care for neonates with conditions such as hypoglycemia, mild respiratory distress, IV antibiotics, phototherapy needs, and pre-term babies learning to bottle feed and gain weight
  • Care for babies withdrawing from maternal drug use
  • Attend C-sections and vaginal deliveries (baby care only)
  • May be asked to care for stable postpartum mothers and babies; willingness to learn maternal care is required if no prior experience (training provided)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of NICU nursing experience
  • Prior travel experience preferred
  • Valid RN license for Colorado

Additional Notes

  • Staffing model includes a minimum of two RNs or an RN and a tech per shift
  • May have combined NICU charge nurse and labor/delivery charge nurse responsibilities
  • Schedule is made by leadership; all time-off requests must be submitted before assignment start
  • Floating to a nearby hospital may be required during low census or staffing needs
