Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg (Travel)

Location

• Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Position Details

• Unit: Surgical Unit (5H)
• Specialty: Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) - Surgical, post-surgical care (not OR)
• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed (option for 48 hours upon request)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday), with some flexibility upon approval
• Call Requirements: None
• Contract Length: 15 weeks (with possibility to extend up to 26 weeks)
• Number of Openings: 3

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 23
• Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Equipment: Standard surgical unit equipment including IV pumps
• EMR System: EPIC
• Patient Population: Post-surgical Med-Surg patients including urology, orthopedic, general surgery, and medical overflow
• Float Requirements: Customary float to Med Surg and Progressive Care units

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Experience in charge nurse roles or willingness to take on charge responsibilities
• Urology experience
• Driver's license
• Flu vaccination required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (exemptions require approval)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Peritoneal Dialysis (Peri Dialysis)

Job Responsibilities

• Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans
• Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
• Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, and self-care skills
• Monitor and note changing patient conditions and needs
• Re-evaluate care objectives as needed

Additional Expectations

• Up to 5 days off per 13-week period can be automatically approved; additional time off requires leadership approval and may need to be made up
• Expected to work at least one major holiday during summer or winter (e.g., Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day)
