Registered Nurse - Step Down

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Surgical Stepdown
• Number of Beds: 29
• Patient Ratios: 1:3 or 1:4
• EMR System: EPIC
• Patient Population: Post-op (high acuity surgeries or lower acuity surgical patients needing cardiac gtts, BiPAP, etc.), trauma, high acuity medical patients

Job Description

• Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all age groups.
• Monitor and coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient care and comfort.
• Utilize nursing process to care for patients post trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities.
• Maintain professional accountability and evaluate effectiveness of care provided by other caregivers.
• Coordinate patient care in conjunction with other departments.
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality.
• Expected to float to any department with acuity equal to or lower than stepdown when needed.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience, including experience within the last year
• ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

• Stepdown or ICU experience preferred
• Positive attitude, problem solver, and team player

Physical and Working Conditions

• Stand and walk most of the shift
• Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
• Ability to push, pull, grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
• Exposure to blood and body fluids
• May work varying schedules and shifts based on patient care needs

Additional Information

• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (declinations not accepted)
• Dress code requires black scrubs without any facility logos or non-approved attire

Summary

This travel RN position on a Surgical Stepdown unit requires a minimum of 2 years of stepdown or ICU experience, current Missouri RN licensure, and BLS/ACLS certifications.
