Registered Nurse - Long Term Care (Night Shift)
Location: Wrangell, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Shift: Night shift, 12-hour shifts
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
- Coordinate nursing care for residents of various ages in a long-term care setting.
- Provide leadership and collaborate with ancillary nursing and healthcare team members to maintain professional nursing standards.
- Make independent clinical decisions during shifts and consult supervisors as needed.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs, LPNs, and ward clerks during the shift.
- Deliver safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem diseases or treatment complications.
- Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately.
- Implement and document nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and policies.
- Conduct thorough nursing assessments, including admission databases and ongoing evaluations.
- Educate patients, families, and staff; participate in care conferences and develop educational programs.
- Communicate effectively and supportively with residents, families, and healthcare team members.
- Serve as charge nurse when required, leading nursing staff and managing unit activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, unit goal setting, and maintain compliance with scheduling and dress code policies.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with mandatory state reporting guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Long Term Acute Care (LTAC), with experience within the last year.
- Experience in Long Term Care settings.
Additional Information
- No housing or flight accommodations provided.
- Willingness to take charge nurse role when the Director of Nursing is not present.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and make sound nursing judgments.
- Responsible for proper delegation and supervision of nursing support staff.
