ICU Registered Nurse (Float Pool) - Colorado, Alamosa
Position Overview
- Role: ICU/MS/ED Float Pool Registered Nurse
- Floating between ICU, Medical-Surgical (MS), and Emergency Department (ED) units across two facilities (15 minutes apart) as needed
- Schedule varies based on unit needs; no fixed time in one specialty
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 - 6:00)
- Hours per week: 36
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Start date: ASAP
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Locals accepted
- Pending and compact licenses accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Colorado
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Experience in Emergency Department (ED) and Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) nursing
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current certifications from American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Clinical skills:
- Para/thoracentesis
- Intubation
- Central line placement
- Arterial line placement
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Must be comfortable floating between multiple units and facilities
Work Environment & Additional Details
- Acute care hospital setting
- Nurse-to-patient ratio varies by unit; ICU ratio approximately 1:2
- No on-call requirement
- Scrub color: Employee preference
- Charting system: MediTech Expanse
- Free parking available in unrestricted spaces
- Rapid response team includes members from each department
Time Off and Scheduling Restrictions
- One request for time off allowed; must be finalized at submission
- No time off within first two weeks of assignment
- Maximum of 10 days off allowed during contract
- No full calendar weeks off permitted
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check, and 7 years of residence/work history
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (annual updates not required)
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (must include make, model, size)
- Negative TB test (T-Spot or QuantiFERON Gold) within 45 days of start; PPD not accepted
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Flu shot during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations not accepted
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within last 10 years
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or completed vaccine series; booster and retesting if negative/equivocal
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or history of disease
- Negative 10-panel drug test with chain of custody within 30 days of start (instant drug screens accepted)
- Colorado CAPS check results required; new search required if gap of 30+ days between assignments
- Photo for badge required
- CO CAPS Release Authorization form required prior to start
Competency Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or Angoff score if specified)
- General competency exam (minimum 80% or Angoff score if specified)
This position is ideal for experienced ICU travel nurses comfortable with floating between multiple acute care units and facilities, possessing strong critical care skills and certifications, and able to meet comprehensive health and compliance requirements.
