ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Newark, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 8 weeks (with possible extension)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Floating: Required
Patient Ratio: 2-3 patients per nurse
Experience Required: Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience
Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
Local Candidates: Must reside within 75 miles of the facility


Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year (minimum 2 years total ICU experience)

Health and Safety Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent, updated annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual renewal
  • Immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units is required
  • Candidate must be prepared to work every other weekend
  • Clear, passport-style photo with solid background required for badge
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required by profession
  • Color blindness testing required once (not annually)

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 2 years of experience seeking a night shift travel assignment in New York with a defined 8-week contract and potential extension. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
