Registered Nurse - PACU (Travel/Contract)

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Position: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, evening shift with variable start/stop times (ranges from 7:00 AM to 11:30 PM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2 weeks (may be called off for 1 shift per 2 weeks)
• On-call: Yes, 1 call shift per month
• Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend shift per month
• Floating: No floating required
• Block Schedule: Not accommodated
• Local candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
• First-time travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Alaska
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
• ACLS
• PALS

Additional Requirements

• Background Check: Must be completed within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
• Drug Screen: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)
• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
• Immunizations & Health Documents:

  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
  • COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
• Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for travel candidates
• Fit Mask Test: Required annually (may be completed onsite)
• References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting
• Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format
• Skills Checklist: Required and must be updated annually for applicable units
• Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift Times: Variable evening shifts with start times between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM, ending between 7:00 PM and 11:30 PM
• Work Hours: 36 hours per week (3x12 hour shifts)
• Floating: Not required
• Block Scheduling: Not available
• On-call: Required once per month
• Weekend Work: Required once per month

• Candidates must comply with all facility-specific annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules.
• Candidates must complete required background checks, health screenings, and immunizations prior to start.
