NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Must float to multiple units including PICU, CV PICU, Stepdown, Medical-Surgical, and rarely Emergency Department.
  • Will also float to Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) NICU, which involves frequent tracheostomy care and significant parent involvement.
  • Float to other campuses as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required.
  • Minimum 2 years total Level III/IV NICU experience, including at least 1 year in Level IV NICU.
  • Two professional references required at time of application; at least one must be a manager or supervisor. Charge RN reference acceptable; peer references not accepted.
  • Must be willing and able to comply with float requirements.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Current government-issued photo ID matching legal name on RN license and certifications.
  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year county search and education verification.
  • Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 60 days of start, updated for each new contract.
  • State-specific searches including Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Inmate Registry, Medicaid Exclusion, and Abuse Registry within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Sex offender search within 30 days of start.
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 60 days prior to start.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within last year, with additional requirements for positive results.
  • Annual flu vaccination required for assignments between October 31 and May 31; medical/religious exemptions require facility approval and mask-wearing during flu season.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella immunity documentation required (positive titer or vaccination series).
  • Hepatitis B immunity or declination documentation required.
  • N95 fit testing within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Physical exam or signed infection control policy prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate’s legal name must match all documentation and records exactly, including middle name if applicable.
  • Temporary IDs or driver’s licenses are not acceptable for compliance.
  • Fingerprinting results may pend at start; facility can complete onsite fingerprinting if needed.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Interview process includes an initial screening with the Float Pool Leader and a possible second interview with the NICU unit manager.

This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs comfortable with high-acuity pediatric care and flexible floating assignments across multiple specialized units and campuses.
