Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• Must be comfortable reading strips and escalating concerns to a physician
• RN must titrate drips
• Must be able to work in a rural, lower-resource setting with typically lower patient volumes
• Driver’s license must be submitted

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• No tele/monitor techs on the unit
• Charge nurse takes an assignment
• Nurse aide support: 1 aide for the floor once census reaches 9 patients
• Common patient types include CHF, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, gastrointestinal bleeding, and acute renal failure
• Common titratable/set-rate drips include analgesics for pain, anticoagulants for blood clots, and antihypertensives for blood pressure control
• Respiratory equipment on the unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, and vents

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Self-scheduling and block scheduling are available
• Full-time and part-time staff are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday coverage is required
• Call or standby is determined by the nurse manager
• Floating is determined by the nurse manager and department needs
• May float to ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• May be asked to float into any other acuity level, including ICU low-acuity holds

Orientation

• Orientation date and location are assigned during the week of orientation
• Clinicians must be in state for the week of orientation, even if first-day modules are remote

• Navy blue scrubs
