Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Telemetry (Tower 5)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Medical Telemetry (T5)
Unit Size: 30 beds
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7pm–7am)
Hours per Week: 36
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (4 total weekend shifts per 4 weeks)
Holiday Requirement: Work into rotation based on unit coverage
Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
EMR System: Cerner
Charge Nurse: Yes (no patient assignment)
Support Staff: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
Telemetry Equipment: Phillips; RNs must read EKGs
Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7; patients on Bipap and Cpap must be independent
Pharmacy: Available 24/7
IV Team: SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks
Common Patient Diagnoses:
- Gynecological surgeries
- Pre-liver transplant care
- End-stage renal disease (ESRD)
- Cellulitis
- Pneumonia
- Diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
Patient Acuity: High acuity with approximately one-third patient turnover per day
Contract Details
- Minimum contract length: 13 weeks
- Travel teams must have their own vehicles
- No concurrent contracts allowed during assignment
- Must be off permanent staff at this health system for 12 months before eligibility for travel assignment
Required Certifications and Exams
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
- Pass/fail Day 1 SIMs Lab during orientation covering:
- Foley catheter insertion (all except ED and NyICU)
- Central line dressing changes (except ED substitutes port-a-cath insertion; NyICU only Foley insertion)
- Lifts, restraints, and wound care education (non-graded)
- Must have IV experience
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- 2 years of core nursing experience in specialty required
- Prior travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU specialties (not explicitly required here, but note for related roles)
Additional Requirements and Notes
- No facial piercings allowed
- Only natural hair colors permitted (no unnatural colors)
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Candidates must complete onboarding by 1pm CST Wednesday before start date; incomplete files will delay start
- Candidates may be expected to work with nursing students (teaching hospital environment)
- Floating: first to float to Medical/Surgical or Telemetry units, possibly other campuses
- Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle service; night shift assigned to parking garage
- High acuity patient care environment requiring strong sterile technique and competency in nursing skills
