Facility & Unit Overview

• Level 2 Trauma Center with 4 critical care bays
• Emergency Department (ED) setting
• Patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics
• Patient ratio approximately 1:4
• Equipment includes ultrasound, bladder scanner, neuro tele computer, Care Aware handheld devices
• Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems: Omnicell, Cerner FirstNet, SBAR
• Teleneurology support for stroke in cooperation with a major hospital
• No Pediatric ICU on site; pediatric critical patients are transferred out

• Weekend Hours: No guaranteed weekends off; fair scheduling efforts in place
• Call Requirements: None
• Float Requirements: Travelers required to float to ED Holding area
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maine
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias

Skills & Experience

• Experience in non-trauma Emergency Department settings
• Experience caring for ventilated patients
• Triage skills essential
• Comfortable managing a wide range of diagnoses including chest pain and stroke
• Exposure to economically depressed patient populations
