Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - ICU (Travel/Contract)

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Unit: Transplant ICU
• Weekend Requirement: Weekends included in rotation
• Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level

Requirements

Licenses & Certifications

• DC Registered Nurse (RN) License must be in hand prior to start date (pending license accepted for later start dates at a lower rate, but proof of pending status required at submission)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• Must successfully pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:

  • Minimum overall score of 80%
  • 100% score on lethal rhythms section

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in:

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Multi-system organ failure
  • IV insulin protocols
  • GI surgery
  • Chronic/Acute renal failure and IV therapy
  • CVA/Acute stroke management
  • External ventricular drains (EVD)
  • Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun
  • ICP monitoring
  • Post neurosurgery management
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Respiratory/thoracic care
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions (use of PPE)
  • Phlebotomy
  • Surgical wounds with drains/Wound Vac (charge experience preferred)

Vaccinations

• Flu vaccine required (facility policy)

Additional Requirements & Competencies

• Criminal background check within 90 days, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
• Physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
• N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete on-site if needed)
• Immunizations/documentation required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual updates required)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
• Completion of facility-specific modules (SITELS) prior to start date
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Relias Dysrhythmia Basics A exam) required annually with remediation if failed
• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
• Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
• Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps

Prior Travel Experience

• At least 1 prior travel assignment required (or 1 month of per diem assignment for per diem personnel)

Summary

This is a travel/contract ICU Registered Nurse position in Washington, DC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience with specific competencies in dysrhythmia management and multiple critical care protocols. The role includes weekend shifts and floating within similar or lower acuity units. Candidates must hold a DC RN license prior to starting and pass a specialized EKG exam. Flu vaccination is mandatory. Prior travel experience is required.
