Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Shift Details

  • Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), 5th Floor
  • Patient Ratio: Typically 4:1, may be 5:1 depending on acuity
  • Shift: Night shift, 4x12 hours (6:30 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Hours per week: 48

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Step down unit experience
  • Experience with drips including Neo (up to 100), Precedex, and Insulin
  • Stroke patient care experience
  • Post-procedural care experience
  • Certifications:
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS
    • PALS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Harassment Prevention Training
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and education verification
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date
  • Fit mask test completed within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific documentation requirements)
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (during flu season)
    • Pneumonia vaccine or declination
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state requirement)
  • Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift
  • Signed facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgment
  • Photo for badge (headshot on plain background, no head coverings or informal poses)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit staff; expires every 3 years)
  • Color blindness testing prior to start (no expiration)

References

  • 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years)
  • 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles
