Overview

• Facility: 29-bed acute care unit

Required Qualifications

• Active IL RN licensure, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS certification
• Must provide the last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off for submission
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Job Details

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• 12-hour shifts: 7a-7p and 7p-7a
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays are rotated
• No call or standby requirement
• 12 hours of non-billable orientation
• 2 shifts of unit orientation
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 4-5:1 on days, 5-6:1 on nights
• Heparin is the only titratable drip
• 24-hour charge RN coverage, with the goal that the charge RN is free of assignment
• 24-hour crisis RN coverage and an administrative supervisor available 24/7
• 24-hour PCT coverage with a 1:10 ratio
• No vents on the unit
• Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC, or stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or as needed
• Telemetry patients are monitored remotely through the house-wide telemetry department
• Travel RNs are first to float to other med/surg-like units
• Does not float to ICUs
• Does not take care of chemo patients
• Staff provide their own scrubs; any color is allowed
• RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and use unit resources if unsuccessful

Patient Population

• Wide range of medical diagnoses, including GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, falls in elderly patients, DVT, and pulmonary embolisms
• Some patients leave the unit for surgery or procedures and return afterward
