Job Description
Provide nursing care in a medical-surgical telemetry unit within a Level II trauma center. The unit has 43 beds with patient ratios of 1:5 and 1:6. The patient population includes adults (18 years and older) with common diagnoses such as cirrhosis, sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory illnesses, wounds, and congestive heart failure (CHF).
Shift Details
- Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
- Weekend Requirement: At least 2 weekend shifts per month recommended
- Call Requirements: None
Unit & Equipment
- Unit Type: Medical Unit (Med Surg Telemetry)
- Equipment Used: Vital signs machine, bladder scanner, IV pumps, thermal imaging, lifts, tube feeding pumps
- Electronic Health Record (EHR): Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Additional Requirements
- Must have at least a 3.2 overall rating on the skills checklist
- Submittal Requirements: Resume, submission form, area-specific competency exam, skills checklist, and screening questions

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
