Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Employment Type: Travel


Unit Overview

  • Unit: PCU/ICU Overflow (10 beds)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • ICU: 2:1
    • PCU: 4-5:1
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 1 Charge RN, 5 Staff RNs
    • Night Shift: 1 Charge RN, 5 Staff RNs
  • No unit secretaries or patient care technicians available
  • Floating required for travelers
  • No on-call requirements
  • Documentation system: Cerner
  • Shift length: 12-hour shifts
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend and holiday support required
  • Dress code: Navy blue or white scrubs

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in Charge nurse roles
  • Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience in a large facility
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Comfortable with hemodynamic monitoring and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
  • Ventilator management skills
  • Critical care pharmacology knowledge, including IV sedation, paralytics, vasopressors, etc.
  • Central line management experience
  • Ability to float to other units

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a large facility medical ICU or PCU setting
  • Comfortable with hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator management
  • Advanced skills in:
    • Ventilator management
    • Critical care pharmacology (IV sedation, paralytics, vasopressors)
    • Advanced hemodynamic monitoring
    • Central line management
  • Ability to assist providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion and intubations
  • Critical thinker, flexible, and able to work well with others

Additional Information

  • Bedside shift report is mandatory
  • Relief charge nurse expected to perform nurse leader rounding
  • Unit uses lift equipment and Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) technology
  • Opportunity to work with advanced equipment and experienced staff
  • Floating policy applies to travelers
