Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - IMCU

Unit and Patient Care Details

  • Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
  • Patient Ratios: RN 1:3-4; CNA 1:6-13 (days), 1:10-13 (nights)
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), 36 hours per week
  • Patient Diagnoses include:
    • Acute and Chronic Respiratory Failure
    • Sepsis
    • Acute and Chronic Kidney Failure
    • Metabolic Encephalopathy
    • Diabetic Ketoacidosis
    • Atrial Fibrillation
    • Heart Failure
    • GI Bleed
    • Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction
    • Unstable Angina
    • Drug ingestion/overdose
  • IMCU serves as overflow for Cardiovascular Care Unit (CVCU), post ablations, post pacers, post angiograms
  • No sheath credentialing or sheath pulling required, but knowledge helpful

Required Experience and Skills

  • Valid RN license in Oregon
  • Minimum 1 year of experience within the last year in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Experience in Medical-Surgical nursing
  • Telemetry experience
  • Management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with cardiac drips including nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone, nicardipine, and other IMCU level of care drips
  • Rapid response team activation experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Certifications

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Schedule and Requirements

  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (not greater than every other)
  • Locals accepted
  • Pending license accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Any absence over 2 weeks requires approval
  • Block scheduling not accommodated

Additional Requirements and Compliance

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required (can start pending physical)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel within 90 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Immunizations and titers required or declination accepted for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (year-round)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required; positive TB requires documentation and chest X-ray
  • Fit mask testing required onsite within first week of start
  • Background checks required:
    • Criminal background check within 90 days (7-year search)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and ongoing every 30 days
    • International background check if applicable
  • Education verification required for non-licensed providers; not applicable for RN
  • References: 2 references within last 2 years showing 1 year in comparable specialty; at least one supervisory reference within last 12 months
  • Competency exams required including:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with minimum 85% passing score
    • Core competency exams prior to start and annually

  • The IMCU has received the Gold Beacon Award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)
  • Nurses provide holistic care and collaborate with multiple disciplines
  • Computerized documentation is required
  • Candidates must sign the job description prior to start
  • Badge photo required at least 8 days prior to start with specific background requirements
