Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Medical Surgical, 32 beds
• Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
• Float Requirement: Yes, within scope
• On Call: None
• Scheduling: Case by case block scheduling
• Documentation System: EPIC
• Scrub Color: Any (no hospital logos)
• Start Date: ASAP
• First Time Travelers: Accepted
• Local Travelers: Not accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
• Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
• Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, additional documentation required
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination accepted)
  • Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start

Background and Documentation

• 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Employment application and resume required
• 7-year work history verification required
• Education verification with highest level confirmed
• Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (New Mexico placements only) and must be redone for every new contract
• Photo for badge required
• Driver’s license or state ID required
• I9 and E-Verify compliance required
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire
• Unit-specific skills checklist required annually

Additional Information

• Must complete fingerprint consent form prior to start (New Mexico only)
• Behavioral Health RNs require APNA eLearning Center certification for competency-based training on restraint/seclusion prior to start
• No on-call shifts required
• Float assignments may be required within the scope of practice

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of Medical Surgical experience who is ready for a travel contract in Albuquerque, NM, with day shifts and weekend coverage requirements.
