Registered Nurse - PCU (Medical-Renal)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Shift: Day, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
Weekend Requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
Charting system: Epic experience required
Patient Ratio: 1:5, caring for adult and geriatric patients
Unit specializes in Hospitalist Medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses
One bed dedicated to chronic ventilator patients
Unit also serves as an alternative for gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and surgical/procedural patients covered by hospitalists
Floating within skillset required

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Virginia
Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience in an acute care setting
Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

Accepts first-time travelers
Locals accepted within a specified radius
Call-off policy allows 1 shift off per 2 weeks
All scheduling requests must be submitted upfront

Compliance and Documentation

I-9 or attestation required
Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
E-Verify or attestation required
7-year background check required within 1 year of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
Education verification of highest earned degree required; transcript or diploma required for PCU
Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
Flu vaccination or declination form required during flu season
Two clinical references required
Completed employment application/resume required
Annual skills checklist update required
Professional photo for badge required
