Registered Nurse - ER Holding (Travel/Contract)

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum new contracts and extensions)
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00 - 7:30)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Work on a fast-paced Adult Admission Inpatient Unit (AAU) adjacent to the Emergency Department.
  • Unit functions as an admission holding area for admitted patients before transfer to one of 11 progressive care units.
  • Patient ratio: 1 RN to 4-5 patients; 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds.
  • Patient population is diverse, covering all specialties except ICU-level patients.
  • Responsibilities include monitoring and interpreting telemetry, managing dysrhythmias, and handling various medical equipment.
  • Time management skills are essential due to frequent patient admissions and discharges ("turn and burn").
  • Relief charge nurse duties may be required; willingness to float within scope to ED admitted patients, ICU for sub-acute care, and inpatient PCU areas is mandatory.
  • Block scheduling may be considered.
  • No locals accepted within 100 miles radius.
  • Pending New Mexico nursing license accepted.
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: absences longer than 7 days require approval.
  • Facility allows up to 3 call-offs during a 13-week assignment.
  • A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative travel work at this facility, whichever comes first.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Direct Observation Unit (DOU) within the last year
  • Emergency Department (ED) experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Proficient in telemetry monitoring
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
