Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology Nights

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Medical Surgical Oncology (Night Shift)
• Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
• Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday depending on rotation)
• Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
• Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
• Local Radius Rule: Candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius (locals not accepted)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Pending license accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
• Experience caring for Medical/Surgical and Oncology patients

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Criminal Background Check (7-year search, statewide and nationwide as applicable, updated annually)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
• Education Verification of highest nursing degree (cannot pend at start)
• State-specific searches and registries as required by Missouri and Illinois regulations
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, including specific drug panels, must remain valid throughout assignment
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Tdap vaccine or declination (required; no exemption for Bone Marrow Transplant Unit)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination (no exemptions for certain units)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Sept 30 – Apr 1)
• Fit mask testing (N95 respirator) required and must be renewed annually; onsite testing options available
• Facility-specific documents including:

  • HIPAA Acknowledgement (annual)
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual)
  • Confidentiality Form (annual)
  • Regulatory Compliance Education and Quiz (annual, must score 80% or higher)
  • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies (must review and sign prior to start)
  • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, taken within 6 months)
• Employment application and professional references (2 required, supervisors preferred)
• Unit-specific competency exams including Oncology competency exam (annual)
• Skills checklist for Oncology/Outpatient Oncology/Infusion Center (within 1 year)

Additional Notes

• No on-call requirement
• Candidates must adhere to facility policies or risk removal from shifts
• Candidates must complete required orientation modules through the facility’s learning platform unless completed in the current calendar year
• Candidates may be required to complete Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification if applicable to the unit
• Candidates must be prepared to float within their scope of practice as needed
