Unit Information

  • Unit: Labor & Delivery (Women’s and Children’s building)
  • Number of beds: 12
  • Patient ratios: 1:2
  • Staffing includes RNs, unit secretary, and OR techs
  • Documentation systems used: CPN, Meditech
  • Scheduling: 3 weekend shifts, 1 call shift for RNs, 2 call shifts for techs, 3 twelve-hour shifts
  • Floating policy: Travelers float first
  • Patient experience focus: Shared decision making

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications required:
    • AWHONN
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Skills and Procedures

  • Advanced skills in care of laboring patients and newborns immediately after delivery
  • Experience with circulating and recovering cesarean section patients
  • Procedures performed on unit include:
    • Vaginal deliveries
    • Cesarean sections
    • Dilation and curettage (D&C)
    • Cerclage
    • Epidural anesthesia support
    • Tub labor assistance

Dress Code

  • Required uniform colors: Ceil Blue, Navy Blue, or Gray scrubs (not provided by hospital)

Additional Notes

  • Unit encourages shared decision making and values patient experience
  • Travelers are given priority for floating assignments within the unit
