Registered Nurse - PCU (Night Shift) - Indianapolis, Indiana
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: Post Cardiac Surgery, Post Vascular Surgery (Progressive Care Unit)
- Staffing Ratios: 1 nurse to 3-5 patients, based on acuity
- Floating: May be required to float to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU units with provided resources and training
Refusal to float may result in contract termination.
Required Experience & Skills
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with strong cardiac and post-operative heart experience
- Skillset:
- Level 1 or Level II Trauma Experience
- Telemetry monitoring
- IV starts
- Cardiac drips titration
- Charge Nurse: May be required to cover charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources
- First Time Travelers: Accepted
- Locals: Not accepted
Required Certifications & Licenses
- License: Valid Registered Nurse license for Indiana (online primary source verification required within 30 days before start)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (AHA or RQI accepted)
- BLS (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Additional Recommended Certifications: (Check with recruiter for applicability)
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Required for all travelers; medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required
- Tuberculosis Testing: Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest X-ray and documentation required
- Drug Screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (includes amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); medical or religious exemptions accepted with approved forms
- Fit Mask Test: Fit test within 12 months of start for approved respirators (N95 or PAPR); on-site fit testing available only as last resort at this facility
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start date
- Color Blind Testing: Ishihara exam or equivalent required with minimum 100% score
Background & Documentation
- Background Check: Required within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG Checks: Required within 30 days of start
- Education Verification: Highest applicable education verified by third party; may be pending at start
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Employment Application: Must be current, include work history, and explain any gaps of 30+ days over the past 7 years
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months of start and annually thereafter
- Competency Exams: Unit competency exam and medication/pharmacology competency exam required
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Cardiac PCU (Progressive Care Unit), with recent experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma or Level 2 Trauma patients
- Telemetry experience
- IV start capability
- Cardiac drips titration capability
- PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience
Additional Notes
- Travelers are expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
- Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period if working 0.9 FTE; otherwise, added to end of contract
- Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work past 11/30/2024 except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport required (clear copy)
- Completion of facility-specific forms and orientation packets is mandatory prior to start
- HIPAA Acknowledgement and other compliance documents must be completed annually
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac/post-op RNs comfortable with telemetry and trauma-level care, seeking a travel contract night shift in Indianapolis.
