Registered Nurse - PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Travel/Contract Position

Location: Creve Coeur, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Phase I/II Recovery Room
  • Prepare patients before surgery, place IVs, perform assessments, administer medications
  • Recover patients in Phase I and Phase II, provide discharge education
  • Surgery specialties primarily ENT and ophthalmology
  • Patient ratio: 1:2 in Phase I, 1:3 in Phase II
  • Shift: Day shift, 5 days per week, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM (40 hours/week)
  • No weekends, no holidays, no on-call required
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
  • Navy surgical scrubs provided

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 5 years of recent PreOp/PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current PALS certification
  • Demonstrated skills in nursing assessment, IV starts, and strong customer service

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
  • Drug testing within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, opiates, cocaine, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually (N95 respirators accepted)
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Annual HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policy acknowledgements
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (~16 hours) through online training platform
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklist within 1 year of start

  • No weekend or holiday shifts required
  • No on-call duties
  • Locals are not accepted for this travel position
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

  • Floating to other units within scope may be required
