Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Unit: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient Ratios/Daily Caseload: Not specified
- Floating: Required to float within scope as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Block Scheduling: Possible, discuss with manager
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- On-call: Not required
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required in specialty areas; first-time travelers not accepted
- Required Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring on unit
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Cardiovascular Care:
- Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, and surgery care
- Sheath removal and TR Band management
- Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
- Renal: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
- Accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration
- Central line, PICC line, peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy and IV starts
- Medication Management:
- Heparin protocols
- Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- PCA and procedural sedation administration
- Neurological/Psychiatric:
- Craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedics: Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
- Plastic Surgery: Skin grafts, surgical drains
- Respiratory Care:
- Ventilator care, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- ABG interpretation, oxygen delivery devices, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy care
- Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
- Preferred Experience: Cerner electronic health record, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Post cardiac angiogram care
- Post myocardial infarction (MI) care
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization care
- Pre/post cardiac surgery care
- Sheath removal and TR Band management
- Feeding tube care and management
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not mandatory
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions within 30 days of start
- Primary source verification of license and certifications
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good physical and mental health, communicable disease free, and ability to perform job functions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination)
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- References: Two professional references required
- Badge photo required within one week of contract signing
- Completion of computer-based learning modules prior to orientation

- Total staffed beds: 562
- Charting system: Cerner
- Dress code: Any solid color scrub
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to start with minimal call-off days (ideally no more than 5 days off)
- Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without penalty
- Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start (for candidates without an IL license)
