Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - BMT Unit

Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Role Details

  • Unit: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) / Hematology/Oncology
  • Total Beds: 36 (expanding soon to 51)
  • Patient Population: Patients with blood cancers receiving chemotherapy, biotherapies, and cellular therapies such as stem cell transplants and CAR-T
  • Shifts: Rotating
  • Days of Week: Various
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, per unit needs
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 3-4:1
  • Scrub Color: Navy
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to like units as needed
  • On-call: No

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with BMT or hematology/oncology acute care experience
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years acute care experience in BMT or hematology/oncology
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted if experience requirements are met
  • Required Certifications:
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Colorado or Compact RN License
    • Oncology certification (ONC)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check including SSN trace, Colorado state checks, education verification, sex offender search, OFAC sanctions, etc.
  • Education Verification: Accredited nursing school verification required (CCNE or ACEN)
  • Licensure Verification: NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start
  • Drug Testing: Required within 30 days of start and annually
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Immunizations & Health:
    • TDAP within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or facility exemption during flu season
    • COVID vaccine or signed declination
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months of start and annually (specific mask types)
  • Color Blindness: Ishihara exam required prior to start (online testing not accepted)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (updated annually)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (updated annually)
  • Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) updated annually
  • OSHA Mandatory Training (updated annually)

Additional Notes

  • Time Off (RTO): Maximum 10 days approved; no RTO allowed during specific blackout periods in 2026
  • References: Two references from the last two years required, including one from the last year, preferably from a Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 years required; gaps over 30 days must be explained
