Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Facility: Large hospital campus
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (day/night rotating)
- Day shift: 7am - 7:30pm
- Night shift: 7pm - 7:30am
- Shifts may rotate as needed to meet operational demands
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 18 months permanent experience in Med/Surg Telemetry prior to travel assignment
- 18 months recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted)
- Licensing:
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
- Certifications Required:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Holiday Work: Must work at least every other holiday
- Orientation Testing:
- ECG rhythm recognition test
- SafeMedicate medication competency test
- Passing scores required on both during orientation
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-Issued Photo ID: Must carry while on assignment
- Background Checks:
- Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA compliant search
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 48 hours of contract signing, results valid for 12 months and updated annually
- Education Verification: Required for all candidates
- References: Two professional references from within one year of start date (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
- Employment History: Minimum 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care in similar specialty
- Skills Checklist: Annual requirement
- State-Specific: Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprint attestation required annually
Certifications & Competencies
- Mandatory Certifications:
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
- Additional Certifications (if applicable):
- PALS (Preferred for pediatric areas)
- NRP (Required for L&D, OB/GYN, NICU)
- TNCC (Preferred for ER)
- Chemotherapy certification (not required for oncology)
- Competency Exams:
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Annual requirement
- Pass/Fail Testing: ECG and medication competency testing during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6-month gap between contracts)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
- Fit Mask: N95 fit test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+)
- Immunizations:
- Tdap every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer, booster if negative/equivocal
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer, booster if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation required
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
- Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later
Facility Specific Requirements
- Onboarding Modules:
- Must complete all online training modules prior to start
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome
- Training videos must be watched before tests; skipping videos will lock candidate out
- Modules typically take multiple days to complete and are high priority
- SafeMedicate Prep Materials: Provided for review before pass/fail medication exam during orientation
- Fingerprinting: Candidates must complete fingerprinting both through agency and facility; facility will conduct their own prints onsite
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and holiday work
- Passing orientation tests is mandatory for continued assignment
- Compliance with all health, background, and certification requirements is strictly enforced
- Returning candidates with less than 6-month gap may have some requirements waived (e.g., orientation testing, modules)
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, who are comfortable with rotating shifts and meeting rigorous compliance and certification standards.
