Job Details
- Specialty: NICU RN (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
- Location: Phoenix, Arizona
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Contract Length: 8 weeks
- Unit: Level 4 NICU
- Unit Size: 71 beds (including 17 stepdown beds)
- Patient Types: Premature infants, cardiac defects, genetic disorders, surgical cases, ECMO, and cooling patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- ICU: 1:2
- Level 2: 1:3
- Charge Nurse Role: Yes, serves as a high-risk RN resource with no direct patient assignment
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 3 out of 6 major holidays
- Floating: To mother-baby and labor care units (babies only)
- Orientation: 2-3 days floor-specific orientation
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Telemetry System: Phillips
- Ventilator Management: Respiratory Therapist manages vents
- In-House Coverage: Neonatologist and midlevels available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
- Pharmacy: NICU pharmacy available during daytime hours
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Valid RN license for Arizona
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years NICU experience required
- Must have 2 years of Level 4 NICU experience (higher requirement supersedes)
- Level 1 trauma and teaching hospital experience required
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Cardiac STABLE Plus certification
- EMR Experience: Cerner required
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Required 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- SIMs Lab: Pass/fail skills lab on Day 1 for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (except NICU and ED have modified requirements)
- Additional Screening: Medical Solutions pre-screening required
- Travel Experience: Previous travel experience preferred but not strictly required
- Other Requirements:
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
- Must not hold concurrent contracts during assignment
- Must have been off permanent staff at this health system for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment
- Own vehicle required for travel teams
- Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for commuting
- Onboarding paperwork must be completed by Wednesday 1pm CST before start date (no exceptions)
Facility & Work Environment Notes
- Teaching hospital with nursing students present
- Parking assigned with shuttle service to facility (night shift parking in garage)
- NICU has 4 private rooms
- Nurse aides: 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT) per shift
- Common diagnoses include premature infants, cardiac defects, genetic disorders, surgical cases, ECMO, and cooling patients
- Day 1 pass/fail exam and competency in sterile technique expected; failure to maintain sterile field during SIMs lab may result in termination
- Floating assignments limited to mother-baby and labor care units (babies only)
Additional Information
- Facility is a large tertiary care center with 607 beds
- Trauma Level: Level 1
- Weekly orientations held on Mondays (except holidays)
- Contract minimum length: 13 weeks (facility will not consider shorter contracts)
- Candidates must provide detailed profiles including unit size, hospital size, trauma level, and EMR experience
