PCU Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel/contract role in Potsdam, New York
• Night shift: 4x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• 12-hour orientation
• Local candidates are not accepted; must live more than 50 miles away

Unit Details

• Mixed-acuity PCU / MS Tele / medical-surgical unit
• Patient population includes PCU and MS Tele, surgical pre- and post-op, ENT, general surgery, trauma surgery, ortho surgery, overflow medical patients, and rare pediatric patients
• Travelers are not assigned to pediatric patients unless experienced
• Float to sister units as needed
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• RTO maximum: 7 days

Required Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Valid RN license in New York
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS

Preferred Qualifications

• PALS
• TCAR

Key Skills

• Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• PCU / DOU / IMC / stepdown care
• IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration
• Cardiac drip management and titration
• Central line, PICC, port, and peripheral IV care
• Blood product administration
• Heparin protocols
• Chest tubes, tracheostomy management, HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP, and non-invasive airway management
• Wound care and wound vacs
• Seizure, CVA, substance withdrawal, ortho trauma, and post-MI care

Compliance and Onboarding

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background check, education verification, and work history verification required
• Drug screening required
• Physical exam, fit test, TB screening, immunization records, and eye exam required
• Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
• Modules and facility acknowledgements required before start
