Operating Room RN Travel Contract

Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse

  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day, 4x10 hours, 6:30 AM–5:00 PM
  • Hours per week: 40

Schedule and assignment details

  • Scheduled day off is based on department needs, with special requests considered if possible.
  • May be scheduled late a few times per month.
  • On-call is not required.
  • Floating may be needed within perioperative services to meet facility needs.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager discretion.
  • First-time travelers are not accepted.
  • Local candidates are accepted within 60 miles.
  • All requested time off must be submitted at the time of application and is subject to facility approval.
  • Traveler may be called off for 10 hours per 2-week period.

Required qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • OR - Operating Room (1 year of experience)
  • OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Clinical experience preferred for this role

  • Lower and upper extremity total joints
  • Foot and ankle
  • Hand and wrist
  • Shoulder and elbow
  • Open and arthroscopic sports surgeries
  • Limited spine and rehabilitation procedures

Unit and patient care setting

  • High-volume, fast-paced orthopedic surgery center with five ORs
  • Pre-op/PACU responsibilities include patient prep, vital signs, EKGs if applicable, IV starts, IV fluids/antibiotics, oral meds, premeds, post-anesthesia monitoring, discharge instructions, and wheelchair discharge to vehicle
  • Works with orthopedics, interventional radiology, and GI services
  • Collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR nurses

Compliance and onboarding items

  • Radiation badge is required and must be provided by the parent company
  • Proof of 2 clinical references is required
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Skills checklist required for the applicable unit
  • Annual background check required
  • Annual work history verification required for the last 3 clinical employers, or fewer if the traveler has fewer than 3
  • State exclusion list required
  • Physical exam required and updated annually
  • Fit test required within 90 days of start and renewed annually
  • Tdap required within 10 years of start or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray required within 90 days of start
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Drug screen required within 90 days of start
  • COVID vaccination is not required but is highly preferred
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption is required during flu season
  • Orientation modules must be completed before start

Additional notes

  • Candidates cannot start without the radiation badge.
  • The role is in a fast-paced perioperative environment with a high orthopedic surgical volume.
