ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4x12 hours, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday; time off cannot be approved for Memorial Day or 4th of July; 40 hours can be approved for other time off; block scheduling not guaranteed
Job Description
- Float pool position covering various ICU and intermediate care units including:
- Medical ICU
- Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU
- Coronary Care Unit
- Surgical Trauma ICU (Level 1)
- Neuro & Neurosurgery ICU
- Critical Care and Intermediate Care Special Pathogens Unit (COVID)
- Thoracic Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit
- Surgical Trauma Intermediate Unit
- Neuro & Neurosurgery Intermediate Unit
- ED Boarders (patients admitted but boarding in ED prior to room assignment)
- Must adhere to facility’s float policy
- Epic electronic health record experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service
- 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
- Education verification required; BSN preferred, ASN minimum if BSN not held
- Official transcript acceptable; photocopy of diploma not accepted
- Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health and certain units; facility will notify if needed
- Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check required only for Behavioral Health and specific units, processed within 45 days prior to start
Certifications and Competencies
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- Additional certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) may be required depending on unit assignment (verify with recruiter)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of position
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions allowed)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB test
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted for measles
- Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required; if low/negative, Hep B Antigen titer also required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
- 10-panel drug screen including marijuana and fentanyl within 2 months of start, updated annually
Additional Facility Requirements
- Review and initial professional appearance guidelines
- Complete facility-specific screening, release authorization, and traveler compliance forms prior to start
- Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if needed
- Latex allergy questionnaire required if applicable (do not upload to credentialing record)
References and Evaluations
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Performance and internal evaluations required if candidate has worked with the agency over 1 year
- Complete employment application/resume and skills checklist as applicable
