Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Work on a 36-bed medical-surgical unit with telemetry monitoring
• Patient ratios typically 1:6, occasionally 1:7 during surge
• Unit staffed with unit secretary (day shift only) and Licensed Nursing Assistants (both shifts)
• Documentation system: Meditech Expanse
• Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend, with rotating holidays
• Floating: To same level of care units only
• Patient experience focus includes bedside shift report, hourly safety rounding, and personal connections

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Hampshire
• Med Surg experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification
• IV certification

Skills and Procedures

• Med-Surg experience required
• Advanced skills: IV therapy
• Procedures performed on unit include:

  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
  • Wound care
  • Drain management (chest tubes, Jackson Pratt drains, etc.)
  • Foley catheter insertion
  • Central line dressing changes
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • EKGs as needed

• Dress code: Scrubs (any color)
• Self-scheduling available, with leadership maintaining rights to balance the schedule
