PCU/IMC Float Pool Nurse - Centennial, Colorado

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit/Department

  • PCU/IMC Float Pool covering multiple specialty units including:
    • General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, ED Observation, and more

Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics
  • Common diagnoses include:
    • Cardiac, Neuro, Ortho, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery post-appendectomy, Gynecology, Psych/Detox, ENT, General Medicine, stable long-term placement patients

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

  • 1:3-4 depending on patient acuity

Required Certifications

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years PCU/IMC experience
  • Preferred neuro experience
  • Preferred Epic electronic health record experience
  • Must be comfortable managing and titrating cardiac drips, insulin, ativan, and heparin

Float Pool Details

  • No home base facility; must float throughout a 60-mile radius zone
  • Float assignments may include ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical Telemetry units
  • Float assignments communicated before or on start date
  • Responsible for securing housing that allows floating within the entire zone

Orientation

  • 1-2 days unit/department specific orientation with a preceptor
  • Week of orientation requires clinician to be in-state even if some modules are remote

Scheduling & Shifts

  • 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am
  • Schedule made by leadership for 6 weeks at a time
  • Travelers expected to be flexible and fill gaps in permanent scheduling
  • 6-9 weekend shifts required in each 6-week schedule
  • May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
  • Rare call or standby requirements (only for low census)

Additional Information

  • Charge nurse designated on each unit; typically does not take patient assignments unless necessary (more common on night shift)
  • Nurse aides are present on the units
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
  • Dress code: any scrub color allowed
  • All time off requests must be submitted prior to assignment start

This position is ideal for experienced PCU/IMC nurses comfortable with a variety of patient populations and flexible floating within a large geographic zone.
