Registered Nurse (RN) – Float Pool (MS/Telemetry) – Colorado Springs Zone 1

Location: Centennial, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Overview

  • Float pool role covering multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius of Colorado Springs, CO.
  • Must be able to float across various hospitals and units within the zone; no home base facility.
  • Facilities include hospitals and medical centers up to 46 miles from Colorado Springs city center.
  • Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance with two formats:
    • Assigned to a single facility for the week with possible intra-facility floating.
    • Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments given 1–2 hours before shift start.
  • Units include a range of specialties: General MS-Telemetry, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity.
  • Charge nurse present on each unit; usually does not take patient assignments except when necessary.
  • Nurse aids are available on units.
  • Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP are used.

Patient Population & Care

  • Adult to geriatric patients.
  • Common diagnoses: Cardiac, Neurological, Orthopedic, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery post-appendectomy, Gynecology, Psychiatry/Detox, ENT, General Medicine, and stable long-term placement patients.
  • RNs are required to titrate heparin drips.

Scheduling & Time Off

  • 7 pm to 7 am night shifts.
  • Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time.
  • Flexibility required to fill gaps in permanent staffing.
  • All time off requests must be submitted before assignment start.
  • Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
  • May be required to participate in holiday rotation.
  • Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations.

Orientation & Hiring Process

  • Week of orientation requires clinicians to be in-state, even if some modules are remote.
  • Interview process includes a candidate interview and a clinical team interview; no unit manager involvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS-Tele) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Certifications required:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Additional Notes

  • Must secure housing that allows floating within the full 60-mile zone.
  • Floating may include ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
  • First float assignment communicated on or before Monday start date.
  • Nurse expected to float across multiple facilities within the zone as needed.
