Family Birthing Center (L/D, PP & OB) RN

Overview

• Travel contract for experienced Labor and Delivery nurses in a Family Birthing Center / LDRP setting.
• Unit: FBC - OB / L&D / PP (LDRP)
• Location: Sacramento, California
• Contract length: 14 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour days
• Hours: 36 per week

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license for California
• 2 years of experience
• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• AWHONN-Advanced
• Must be able to float to MB
• Must be able to circulate C-sections
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips on moms in PACU only

Unit Details

• High-risk unit with couplet care
• 10 L&D beds
• 2 OR suites on the unit for C-sections
• 3 OB-ED triage beds and 3 antepartum testing beds used for OB ED overflow
• 12 postpartum beds
• 140-165 births monthly
• Ratios: 1:3-4 couplets, LD 1:1 to 1:2, antepartum 1:1-3
• Common patient types: preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, cesarean sections, hypertension
• Pitocin is a common titratable/set-rate drip
• OB surgical techs are on the unit
• OB hospitalist is in house 24/7
• Neonatologist is on call 24/7 and rounds daily
• Anesthesia is in house 24/7
• No vents
• EFM system: GE Corometric monitors / Fetalink surveillance

Scheduling and Logistics

• Report is at the bedside
• Overtime and extra shifts are available
• Every other weekend
• Rotates holidays with staff
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Floating may include other Sacramento facilities; mid-shift float is rare
• Scrubs provided
• Baby Catcher / NRP role may be filled by NICU or L&D staff for the entire shift

Additional Notes

• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s
• Holiday time off may be considered but is not guaranteed
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• 2 supervisor references required at submittal, including 1 within 12 months and 1 within 3 years
• Copy of driver’s license required at submittal to validate legal name
• Prescreen/auto-offer process with manager rescind window of 24 hours
