Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients with mixed/shared acuity levels
Float required when census warrants
Every other weekend work required
Block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted

Required Experience & Skills

Minimum 1 year of RN experience in Emergency Department or related specialty
First-time travel nurses accepted
Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement
Skills required:
- General Emergency Department care (combined adult and pediatric)
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- Continuous IV paralytics and sedation
- Emergency medication administration including IV vasopressors
- Procedural sedation administration
- Stroke (CVA) care
- Isolation precautions

Certifications & Licenses Required

Current RN license valid in New York (Primary source verification required within 30 days of start)
BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units and OR)
Other certifications may be required as per unit description (e.g., NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid RN license in New York
Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Competency in phlebotomy
Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation and management
Skilled in management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
Experience with blood product administration
Knowledgeable in central line care and management
Ability to administer continuous intravenous paralytics and sedation
Competent in emergency medication administration including intravenous vasopressors

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

Government-issued photo ID required
7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
Education verification from primary source required (transcripts/diplomas if no verification on file)
Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
Fit mask test (specific N95 models) within 1 year, updated annually
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Facility-specific documents and attestations to be completed prior to start
References: 2 within last 3 years (required for travel agency compliance)

This position is ideal for Emergency Room RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced environment and have the required certifications and competencies. Prior travel experience is not required.
