Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a Level One low-risk birthing center with single room maternity care.
- Patient population includes obstetrical patients (antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum), clean female surgical cases, newborn stabilization, normal newborn care, and pediatric patients during the perinatal period.
- Care incorporates Orem’s theory of self-care and family-centered care philosophy.
- Cesarean births are performed and recovered in the birthing center.
- Nursing support may be provided for therapeutic abortions on other units when staffing permits.
- Care is provided on inpatient or outpatient status.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Vermont.
- Minimum of 1 year current Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) experience; experience in a high-volume unit (400+ deliveries per year) preferred.
- Resume with any employment gaps over 30 days clearly defined.
- Skills checklist specific to Labor & Delivery discipline completed within the last year.
- Two supervisory references from the last 2 years of employment.
- Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Cesarean sections, epidurals, electronic charting, and venipuncture.
- Certifications in Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, Emotional support) – can be obtained during onboarding.
- Prior travel nursing experience is highly preferred.
Additional Information
- The position is located in a very rural area with limited housing options and public transportation; candidates should plan accordingly.
- Locals residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted.
Summary
This is a temporary night shift RN position in Labor & Delivery requiring at least 1 year of recent LDRP experience, Vermont RN licensure, and BLS certification. Experience with high delivery volumes and specialized certifications are preferred. The role involves comprehensive obstetrical and newborn care in a rural, low-risk birthing center setting.
