Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Unit: Head, Neck, and Plastics unit (PCU and Telemetry experience required)
- Floating required
- Weekend coverage required
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (PCU/Telemetry)
- Prior travel experience: Not required
- Experience with Epic electronic health records preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, CPI)
- Certification renewals must be planned if expiring during contract
Required Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%+)
- Color Blind Testing (passing score 80%)
- Unit Specific Competency Exams (80% passing score or Modified Angoff score)
- Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (if applicable)
- RN Math Ability Competency Exam (annual, 80% passing score)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for ICU, PCU/Stepdown, Telemetry, and other specified units
- EKG Exam (must be completed within first week of booking)
Background & Verification Requirements
- Background Check within 1 year, updated annually (includes criminal, sex offender, FACIS III, education verification)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Transcript/Diploma and Education Verification required
- State License Verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
- Employment Verification for last 7 years, completed 8 business days prior to start
- References: Two required, verified within 6 months, must state direct supervision
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA
- Fit Mask test within 1 year, updated annually (N95 or equivalent)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if positive TB history), renewed annually
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines, booster if equivocal/negative
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination (annual renewal)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines, booster if equivocal/negative
- Drug Testing within 1 year, updated annually (specific panels required)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption (updated annually)
- COVID vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required
- COVID Booster preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Skills Checklists (may require multiple, updated annually)
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing for ICU, ER, PACU, Telemetry, and other units
- Compliance with facility-specific policies including confidentiality, electronic communications, and acceptable use policies
Summary
This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position in a specialized PCU/Telemetry unit requiring at least 1 year of experience in the specialty. Floating and weekend coverage are mandatory. Prior travel experience is not required. Multiple certifications, competency exams, background checks, and health documents must be current and maintained throughout the contract. Local candidates within 100 miles are not eligible.
