Registered Nurse – Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work on a cardiovascular telemetry unit caring for pre/post-op surgical cardiovascular patients, medical cardiac patients requiring progressive care/monitoring, vascular patients, amputations, and detox patients.
- Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), weekdays, every other weekend required.
- Float within scope as needed to meet facility needs.
- Patient ratio goal: 4:1 (stretch ratio up to 5:1), may include coverage of LPN patients.
- Orientation held every other week on Thursday and Friday (2 days).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Intermediate Medical Care (IMC)
Shift & Schedule Details
- 36 or 48-hour contract options available.
- Every other weekend required.
- 36 hours guaranteed.
- Open to accommodating blocked schedule requests.
Orientation & Training
- Orientation is 2 days (Thursday and Friday), including Cerner Infusion Management training.
- Pass/fail testing required for EKG, medication calculation, and blood administration (two attempts allowed).
- Completion of required inservice training modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours).
- Stroke education CEUs required annually for nursing staff on certain units.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming good health and no physical limitations.
- Annual fit mask testing (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or Aura 9205) required; onsite fit testing available if no clinic within 100 miles. PAPR accommodations available if fit test fails.
- Negative TB test within 3 months of start (2-step skin test or preferred QGold/TSpot). Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Required vaccinations or documented immunity:
- Tdap (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titers; boosters required if negative/equivocal).
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titers; boosters required if negative/equivocal).
- Hepatitis B series or documented immunity; declination allowed if series completed and titer negative.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) unless approved medical/religious exemption is granted. Flu vaccine available onsite at no cost.
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, PCP, benzodiazepines, methadone, propoxyphene). No placeholders or pending results accepted.
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start; new check required if break in service exceeds 30 days.
- Additional background screenings: SSN trace, county checks, sex offender search, national criminal, and international searches if applicable.
- EPLS/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be completed independently within 30 days of start and updated annually.
- Sex offender search processed directly by client within 30 days of start and updated annually.
- Primary source verification of RN license (NURSYS) within 30 days of start.
- Valid driver’s license and social security card required.
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Candidates must comply with facility dress code and review blood administration policy prior to start.
- Must review RN/LPN math calculation packet and EKG review packet prior to start (no testing at orientation).
- Must complete facility-specific documents including time and attendance, medical release, vaccination exemption forms if applicable, and state liability/time gap forms.
- Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked at this facility.
- 100-mile radius rule applies for candidate location; exceptions possible case-by-case for 75-99 miles.
