ICU

Overview

• Travel/Contract RN role in Mount Airy, North Carolina.
• 13-week contract.
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 18:45–07:15.
• 36 hours per week.
• Local candidates are accepted.
• No call requirement.
• Black scrubs required and not provided.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• 2 years of ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience.
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year.
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• NIHSS.
• Stroke Life Support.
• Experience working with cardiac patients.
• IV insulin protocols.
• Accessing/managing ports.
• Blood product administration.
• Titrate cardiac drips.
• Titrate vasoactive drips.
• Experience with ventilator management.
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
• IV insertion skills.
• CVA/Acute Stroke management.
• Experience with Meditech.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
• Must be available for hospital orientation classes each day during the first week.

Preferred Qualifications

• GI surgery.
• Acute Kidney Injury.
• Chronic/Acute Renal failure.
• Arterial line management.
• Central line care/management.
• PICC line management.
• TPN/Lipids.
• Continuous IV sedation.
• Emergency Medications.
• Assist with Chest Tube Insertion/Removal.
• BiPAP/CPAP management.
• Fresh tracheostomy.
• Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs).
• Suctioning (ETT, NT).
• Ventilator Management.
• INR.
• Phlebotomy.
• PT/PTT.
• Recognition of infection in immunosuppressed patients.

Unit Details

• Rotating float if census is low, between step-down ICU and ICU.
• Target ratio is 1:3; if 4 or more patients, an aide will be present.
• 12 weekend shifts per contract.
• Self-scheduling.
• Unit orientation is 24 hours.
• Patient diagnoses include DKA, active GI bleeds, stroke, post-stroke respiratory failure, pneumonia complicated surgical, CHF, and maybe AKI.
• Unit procedures/details include 12 lead ECG, camera in every room, cardiac monitoring, continuous pulse ox, continuous temp, respiratory same unit, and vents.
