Registered Nurse – Stepdown/MedSurg

Location: Fairmont, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
Holiday Requirement: Rotating, either evening or day shifts
Call/Standby: None
Floating: Not required
Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Stepdown/MedSurg
• Number of Beds: 20
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown: 1:3
  • MedSurg Floor: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aides: Yes, 2 per shift
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen
• Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely; RNs read strips
• Orientation: Unit-specific, scheduled on weekends (Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM)

• Respiratory issues
• Weakness
• Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)
• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
• Chest pain

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Experience & Skills

• Stepdown nursing experience required
• Ability to titrate drips, including:

  • Heparin
  • Insulin
  • Cardizem
  • Amiodarone

Additional Requirements

• Must submit a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with application
• Any licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions

Role Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Stepdown/MedSurg unit
• Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac strips
• Administer and titrate IV drips as ordered
• Collaborate with house supervisor and nursing aides to ensure patient care quality

This position is ideal for RNs with Stepdown experience seeking a 13-week travel assignment in a supportive, well-equipped unit with a consistent schedule and no floating or call requirements.
