Registered Nurse (RN) - MS Float Pool

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical (MS) Float Pool RN
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7:30 PM), 36 hours/week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Holiday Rotation: Required
  • On-call: Not required
  • Float Assignments: Med Surg floors at Main hospital and Ashley River tower
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: May vary depending on unit assigned
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • License Required: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
  • Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Block schedule accommodation: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis within 60 miles radius

Required Credentials & Documentation

Licensure

  • South Carolina RN license or Compact license required
  • Primary source verification required
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Temporary "walk-through" license option available for eligible candidates (24-48 business hours processing)

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only, valid at start date
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for certain units (Adult Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, ER, ICU, Interventional Radiology, PACU, PCU, PreOp, Observation Unit)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for all Pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only, valid at start date
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for ER and as applicable
  • Other certifications as required by specific units (e.g., CHEMO for Oncology unit)

Background Checks

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • State-specific search for South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of positive TB with chest x-ray follow-up
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters required for low titers
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters required for low titers
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated

Competency & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Competency exams required; Pediatric OR prefers pediatric-specific exams but accepts regular exams if no pediatric experience

Facility Specific Requirements

  • First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules must be completed prior to orientation
  • Passport-style badge photo required before start
  • Sterile Processing Techs require additional physical assessment and lab panels (CMP, CBC)
  • Radiation badge required for certain specialties (e.g., CVOR, Cath Lab, Radiation Oncology)
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required

Additional Notes

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks (guaranteed hours)
  • Local candidates with more than 7 days of non-holiday return to office (RTO) restrictions require facility approval
  • Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November)
