Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse specializing in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry to join our dynamic team on a renal-focused inpatient unit. This position offers an opportunity to work with patients requiring renal and limb preservation care, including those with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Acute Renal Failure (ARF), and other related conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to patients in a telemetry unit with a focus on renal and limb preservation.
• Conduct continuous cardiac monitoring and effectively interpret EKG rhythms.
• Administer blood products and manage both central and peripheral lines.
• Perform continuous bladder irrigation and manage pre/post-hemodialysis treatments.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, ensuring quality patient care and effective communication.
• Maintain adherence to isolation precautions and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).

Job Details

Shift: Night shifts, 3x12 hours (18:45 - 07:15)

Patient Ratios: 1:5 on both day and night shifts

Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Interdisciplinary Support: Access to IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, and Transportation.

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation program consisting of a total of 24 hours, including shifts with a preceptor and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) education.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar nursing role.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications are preferred.
• Strong skills in telemetry, including the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Experience in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration.
• Familiarity with EKG lead placement and ZOLL device usage is necessary.

Patient Demographics

This unit primarily cares for adult and geriatric patients with various renal conditions, including those requiring vascular procedures, management of congestive heart failure (CHF), and care for diabetic foot ulcers.

Additional Information

Scrubs are not provided; nurses are expected to wear navy or white scrubs. The unit employs self-scheduling according to operational needs, allowing for flexibility in work hours.

All candidates will be required to pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty role.
