What is a Pre-Op Nurse?
Pre-op nurses are a specific type of perioperative RNs who specialize in preparing patients for surgery before they go into the operating room. They work exclusively in the preoperative holding area, which is the first transition in care for surgical patients and a critical phase of the perioperative process. Pre-op nurses’ primary role is that of a patient advocate who steadfastly identifies each patient’s needs and risk factors to help ensure positive patient outcomes.
